Summer is just about here. My kids are going to be out of school, I have to line up a new client for my career job, and I’m back into the music working on the songs for “While You Were Out”. It’s a busy time, and that’s a good thing!
I’ve been trying to record some vlog-style videos and thinking more about how I want to record things for YouTube, all with that agentic video timeline stuff to help the process along. It’s going pretty well, but I struggle to make the time to get footage of studio music going on.
I also cancelled my SoundCloud Artist Pro subscription. I don’t release/distribute through them, nor do I find the “vinyl record” program appealing. The community there hasn’t been great for years due to a significant number of changes they made to things like groups, the way the feed presents, and all of the promotional pay-to-appear stuff. Yes, they need a sustainable business model, but the spirit of why I joined (which was more akin to forums and older internet spaces I loved when I was younger) has long since faded.
So what’s next? I’m thinking of trying out Bandcamp Pro, or Patreon, both with Sliptide.com for fan engagement and sharing of art. Getting back to some basics on this website is the first step, and it has been fun working on my side project for a Discogs companion web app that lets me share what I’m listening to (again, over on the Listening Lounge!)
